Message from James W. Helton, Superintendent

Hello, and welcome to Waterloo Community Unit School District No. 5.  Waterloo C.U.S.D. No. 5 is a wonderful learning environment for students.  We are located in southwestern Illinois in Monroe County, approximately 35 miles southeast of St. Louis.  Despite our proximity to the city, the area maintains a distinct rural flavor.

The school district has a strong reputation of academic success.  Our dedicated staff and supportive community enable our district to offer a wide range of academic offerings, including special education services.  A philosophy of shared decision-making allows all stakeholders to be accountable for ensuring that all students perform at the highest possible level.

Our students are arguably our greatest asset.  We are privileged to work with such fine young people.  They are a direct reflection of the values that are fostered in the homes and institutions of the Waterloo community.

I am excited to be part of a learning community that provides an environment that benefits all of our children.
