Visual Media - 8th Grade Encore

Visual  Media

Description:

The students choosing to take the encore class, Visual Media, will be involved in a variety of activities during the quarter. Students will be watching and evaluating different news broadcasts from local and national news. The students will then use different sources (magazines, newspapers, internet, etc) to develop a student driven news broadcast. The stories will be based around the student’s individual interests. Students will be involved in all processes of developing the news broadcast including: directing, writing, delivering, filming, and editing.

Encore Philosophy:

Encore classes are an opportunity for students to use technology for a discovery-based learning experience. Students will be challenged to actively pursue learning outcomes within the classroom. Success will be dependent upon remaining on task and achieving the learning goals.

Encore classes are a graded subject similar to math, language, art, or band. Students will be assigned little or no homework. Success in encore classes is dependent upon actively pursuing the learning outcomes of the particular class. Students must learn to work with their peers, be able to independently make decisions, be self-motivated, remain on task, and contribute to class harmony.

Students will be asked to bring the following materials each day to encore classes: a writing utensil, encore 3-ring binder with paper, agenda, and reading book.

Encore Grading System:

  • 100 points - Classroom participation (including points for conduct)
  • 20 points - Bell Ringer activities
  • 80 points – In class work
  • 100 points- Final Project
