Meet the Teacher






Hi~
My name is Melissa Liefer. Welcome to my classroom website! I teach fourth grade at Gardner Elementary School in Waterloo, Illinois. I am fortunate to be part of a great team of educators. I enjoy teaching and look forward to each day.

Family: My mom is a sixth grade teacher, and my dad is a grain farmer. I have one younger brother, Todd (who is married to my wonderful sister-in-law, Kelly).
Education: I attended Red Bud Elementary School. When I was in fourth grade, my favorite subjects were math and art. (Today these are still two of my favorites!) After graduating valedictorian from Red Bud High School, Class of 2000, I went on to college at Southeast Missouri State University. While studying elementary education I was privileged to work in several classrooms including St. John's Lutheran School, Red Bud, IL (1st grade), Jackson South Elementary, Jackson, MO (4th Grade), Shawnee Elementary, Grand Tower, IL (1st grade), Parkview Elementary, Columbia, IL (4th Grade), Rogers Elementary, Waterloo, IL (3rd Grade). After graduating in December 2003, I substitute taught at area schools. In the fall of 2004, I began teaching fourth grade at Rogers Elementary. I graduated with my Masters Degree in Education from SIUE in May 2008. In the fall of 2010, I began teaching fourth grade at Gardner Elementary.
Personal Mission Statement
As a committed and enthusiastic educator, I will inspire students. My mission is to spark an interest in new subjects and help students of all modalities delve into topics they are already curious about. Through positive encouragement, high expectations, and active participation, my ultimate goal is to make a difference--instilling a love of learning in all areas of life.
