First Grade Early Literacy and Reading Benchmark Targets for Fall, Winter and Spring

 All students in kindergarten through 2nd grade are checked for adaquate academic progress three times a year, fall, winter and spring.  This assessment is used to determine which students are on target and which students may need extra help to make adaquate progress.  The assessments are given in Early Literacy Skills and in Reading Fluency. 

Letter Naming Fluency Targets:  (LNF)

This score represents how many upper and lower case letters your child can name in one minute.

    Fall:  42               Winter:  53             Spring:  58

 

Letter Sound Fluency Targets:  (LSF)

This score represents how many lower case letter sounds your child can name in one minute.

    Fall:  27               Winter:  39              Spring:  41

Phonemic Segmentation Fluency Targets: (PSF)

This score represents how many individual sounds your child can hear iand name in a word in one minute.  Also known as chopping the word into sound segments. This skill is extremely improtant for decoding and spelling.

     Fall:  36               Winter:  48              Spring:  52   

Nonsense Word Fluency Targets:  (NWF)

This score represents how well yur child can decode unfamiliar words in one minute.

     Fall:  26               Winter:  47              Spring:  59

 

 

Reading Curriculm Based Measures Target Scores:(R-CBM)

This score represents how many words your child can read in one minute on an unrehearsed story.
