Classroom Policy

CLASSROOM RULES
I have three rules in my classroom.  I expect my students to:
1. Be responsible
2. Be respectful
3. Be safe

CONSEQUENCES
Each day is a new day for my students.  Each time a rule is broken the student moves his/her sailboat to the next level.  The levels are:
1. Warning
2. Lose Dolphin Dollar for the day
3. Conference with the teacher and miss afternoon recess
4. Note sent home

*If your child is on level 4 three times during the quarter he/she will be referred to the principal for further discipline.

REWARDS
Each day students can earn a Dolphin Dollar for following the rules.  Monday morning I will pass out the amount of Dolphin Dollars earned for the previous week.  These dollars may be redeemed for treats, special privileges, and prizes.

AGENDA
The agenda is a great organizational and communication tool between home and school.  The agenda will travel between home and school every day.  Students are given class time to record all homework and upcoming events in their agenda.  All homework assignments are due back the following morning unless noted otherwise.  I will also make every effort to inform the class of approaching quizzes and tests.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD’S AGENDA DAILY AND INITIAL IT.  I will check your child’s agenda each morning for your initials and any notes you may have written to me.

HOMEWORK
Work not completed during class time becomes homework.  All homework is due back the next day, unless noted otherwise.

  • If the homework assignment is returned incomplete, the student will be expected to complete it during afternoon recess.  In addition, the student will have to move their sailboat to level 1: Warning
  • If the homework assignment is left at home, the student will be expected to bring it in the next day.  In addition, the student will have to move their sailboat to level 2:  Lose Dolphin Dollar.
  • If the homework assignment is lost, the student will be expected to ask for another copy so he/she may redo it.  In addition, the student will have to move their sailboat to level 2: Lose Dolphin Dollar

BOOMERANG FOLDER
Students will designate one of their folders as a “BOOMERANG” folder.  This folder will travel between home and school each day.  Please make sure your child completes all assignments on the “Complete & Return” side of the folder and is returned in the same pocket.  The other side of the folder is labeled “Keep at Home”.  It will contain graded/checked papers, flyers, newsletters, etc.  Please empty this pocket each night.

MAKE UP WORK
If your child misses school for any reason, he/she is responsible for making up the missed work.  When your child is absent, please call the school office (939-3454) in the morning to request your child’s work for the day.  Sometimes students feel better as the day progresses and can complete some of the work.  This will help prevent an overload of homework when your child returns.

GRADING SCALE

Our grading scale at Rogers is:
92-100 = A
85-91 = B
73-84 = C
65-72 = D
Below 65 = E

I will grade your child’s work using a point system.  Some assignments are worth more than others.  For example, the math assignment tonight has 25 problems.  So I may make each problem worth one point each to equal 25 points.  Tomorrow’s assignment may have 40 problems.  I don’t want it to count for 40 points, so I may count each problem as ½ a point to equal 20 points total. Tests and quizzes will more than likely be doubled or tripled depending on the number of questions.  The advantage of the point system is to prevent your child’s grade from dropping drastically if they fail one out of two tests that quarter.

You will notice that I will have a grade posted on your child’s paper if I recorded a grade.  If you see a stamp or checkmark at the top of the paper it means we checked it as a class or I checked it for completion.

BIRTHDAYS
You may send in birthday treats to celebrate your child’s birthday.  I only ask that they be store bought and easy for me to distribute.  If your child’s birthday is during the summer, we will celebrate his/her half birthday.

BOOK ORDERS
I do monthly Scholastic Book Orders in my class.  You will usually have a week and a half to place your order.  Orders can be sent back to me with a check written out to Scholastic Book Clubs or you may place your order on-line at
