In order to guarantee your child and all the children in our classroom the excellent learning climate they deserve, we will utilize the following behavior management plan starting the first day of school.
Our philosophy is that all students can and should behave appropriately in the classroom. No student shall engage in behavior that is not in his or her best interest or in the best interest of the others in the classroom. Students and teachers have the right to a safe environment at school.
I will clearly explain these class rules to my students:
1. Talk in a quiet voice when you talk indoors.
2. Walk in the classroom, hallway and to the bus.
3. Take care of the materials in the classroom.
4. Be kind and polite to each other.
5. Stay in the room unless an adult gives permission to leave.
6. Follow the directions of school personnel.
We will be consistent in enforcing these rules. Appropriate behavior will be rewarded with praise, stickers, prizes, etc. If a rule is broken these are the consequences:
- Teacher will remind child of the rule and the child will verbally repeat the rule.
- Natural consequences will be used whenever possible. For example if a child throws a toy, he will no longer be allowed to use that toy. If a child runs in the hallway, he will have to go back and walk.
- Time out is usually used only for repeated behaviors or aggressive behaviors against other children. The child sits alone until he has calmed down and is ready to follow the rules. Emphasis is on keeping everyone in the classroom safe from being hurt.
- A note will be sent home to the parents if behaviors continue. This note is usually read to the child before it is sent. The note is to inform you of what is happening at school so you can talk to your child about it. This is not intended to pass you the responsibility of punishing your child.
- Teacher or principal may call the parent for repeated or severe offense.
- In case of a severe disruption, the child may be removed from the program.
