Dear Parents,

I have put together this short handbook for you help inform you of the things we do in fourth grade.  Please take a few minutes to read through it.  Hopefully it will be an easy reference during the school year.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions throughout the school year.  The best times to reach me are between 7:15-7:45 a.m. and 3:00-3:30 p.m.  The school phone number is 939-3060.  If these times are inconvenient, feel free to call school anytime during school hours and leave a message.  I will return the call at my earliest opportunity.

I want your child to have a successful fourth grade year.  To do this I will need your support and encouragement throughout the year.  With all of us working together, it should be a great year!

LIBRARY

We go to the library once a week.  This is an opportunity for your child to check out a book of his/her choice to read.  Books may be kept for two weeks.  I am asking your help in making sure your child has his/her library book everyday, so that it can be read during our silent reading time better known as Uninterrupted Sustained Silent Reading.  (U.S.S.R.)

BIRTHDAYS

You are welcome to send treats on your child's birthday if you like.  We do ask that the treasts be prepackaged for health reasons.  We have 26 students, however, during the year we may gain or lose a student.

BOOK/SOFTWARE ORDERS

Each month a book or software order will be sent home with your child.  If you plan to pay for your order with a check, please make the check out to the book or software company.

VOLUNTEERS AND GUEST SPEAKERS

During the year we cover many topics and have various outings.  I am always looking for help, so if you can assist in any way please let me know.

MAKE-UP-WORK

If you child misses school for any reason, he/she is responsible for making up the work missed.  While he/she is gone an assignment sheet will be filled out.  The homework will be in the office providing you have made arrangements for this.  If you have not asked for homework, your child needs to see me immediately in the morning so that assignments can be explained.  In this case the work is due the next day.  Tests will be given on the day of the student's return provided they knew about the test before they left.

TESTS

Students will be given two or three days notice as to when a test will be given.  This should allow the student ample time to review and prepare for the test.  If for some reason a student does poorly on a test, I will do some reteaching with that student for several days.  Then he/she will be given a retake test.  The grade from the first and second test will be averaged together to arrive at a final grade.  So, it is easy to see if they do better the first time their grade will be higher.  Chapter tests in the various subjects will be sent home regularly to be signed by a parent.  In this way you will be able to view the child's test scores.
