Monarch Award: Illinois K-3 Children's Choice Award

The Illinois School Library Media Association created The Monarch Award Program to encourage children to read/listen for personal enjoyment. The new list of twenty-five books are  bought for the second grade classrooms each year.  Students are encouraged to take a book home to read with a parent or independently.  During February students vote on their favorite book.  Votes are sent to the state and then a winner is announced in the spring.  Books on the list include fiction, nonfiction, picture books, poetry, and early chapter books.  They provide a wide range of interests and reading levels.
