Homework Tips
Homework Schedule
It is recommended that students in the fourth grade spend approximately 30 - 40 minutes working on homework in the evening. When possible, this time should be spent with a parent or guardian rather than the child working alone. Different children work at varied speeds, therefore not everyone will be bringing home the same amount of homework. Below is a guideline of suggested topics to work on in addition to any assigned work for the day.
Monday - Read 15 minutes for RIF reading - practice math facts
Tuesday - Read 15 minutes for RIF reading - practice math facts - practice any science or social studies vocabulary
Wednesday - Read 15 minutes for RIF reading - practice math facts -
Thursday - Read 15 minutes for RIF reading
Friday - Have a great weekend!
Other activities such as playing a family game or going to the library are also good ways to spend the study time.
Homework Grade
Each quarter all students will start with a 100% for their homework grade for each subject. If an assignment is incomplete, they will lose 5 points from that subject. At the end of the quarter their total points will be used as one grade for that subject. You will be notified through a late sheet if your child has a missing assignment.
Help Sheets
If your child is having difficulty with a certain topic or skill I will be sending home a HELP Sheet with a description of what you can work on to help them catch up. Please sign and return just the cover page to school the next day.
Make Up Work
If your child misses school, they are responsible for making up any missing work. An assignment sheet will be filled out for the day of their absence and will be outside the office for you to pick up upon request. If the homework cannot be picked up, it will be sent home the next day they are present and is due back to school the following day.
