Welcome to 4th grade! My name is Kara Lavoie. I have lived in Waterloo most of my life. I attended SPPS and then went to Gibault High School. I started college at the University of Illinois and finished at SIUE with a degree in Elementary Education. I later earned  a master's degree in Elementary Education. In 2008 I earned my National Board Certification.  I started my teaching career at Immaculate Conception School in Columbia, Illinois. I came to the Waterloo District in 1993 and have been teaching 4th grade ever since.

My husband Ron and I have two daughters, Brittany and Kaila. Brittany lives in Chicago and Kaila attends the University of Illinois. We also have a cat named Ozzie and a dog named Buster. My family enjoys hiking and camping, especially in Colorado.

I have really enjoyed my years of teaching. I feel lucky to work in a great district with wonderful kids and teachers. I look forward to a great year!
