RIF Reading Program
RIF Reading
RIF stands for Reading Is Fun or Reading Is Fundamental.
The RIF program is a way to encourage your child to get into the habit of reading. Each evening, Monday through Thursday, your child is asked to read for 15 or more minutes as part of their reading assignment. This can be reading silently or aloud to you or a sibling. It should not, however, be reading from a textbook or other homework item. RIF is designed to be reading for fun. It can be from a magazine, book, newspaper, or even a comic book. Any type of reading is acceptable. Your child will be given a RIF form at the start of each month. This form will have a due date included on it. If your child falls behind on the weekday reading they may use the weekend to catch up on any missed minutes. If the form is misplaced, just use scrap paper or send a note letting me know that your child has read for the month.
Daily reading exposes your child to various author's styles and schould improve their vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. The main goal of RIF Reading is to get your child into the habit of reading each day. Thanks for your help in making this program a success!
These forms will be collected at the end of each month and are used for the following purposes:
1. Reading Grade
2. Incentive Programs for the month (Including Pizza Hut, 6 Flags, Raging Rivers, and any other programs offered)
If your child is an avid reader already, you may just write across each month's form letting me know that they have met the requirements. If the form is not turned in at the end of the month, it will count as an incomplete assignment.
