Behind the Music:

The Mrs. Shifflet Story

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jennifer Shifflet and I am a sixth-year teacher here at Waterloo Junior High. I graduated top of my class from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale with a degree in Music Education (Go Salukis!) and have also graduated with a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Teacher Leadership. My primary instrument is flute, but I also enjoy playing the oboe, clarinet, sax, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, piano, and the kazoo. In addition to the 7th and 8th Grade Band (including Concert Band, Marching Band, and Pep Band), I also instruct the 6th Grade Band, and Jazz Band.

I live in Belleville with my husband and my dogs Prestissimo Alfredo con Queso de Shifflet (Mo for short; he’s an Italian Greyhound) and Tarantella de las Piernas Flaquitas alla Shifflet (Telly; she's also an Italian Greyhound). In my spare time, I watch movies and read, cross-stitch, sew, and cook. During the summer, I enjoy playing video games such as Guitar Hero, MarioKart, Lego Star Wars and Little Big Planet. My favourite bands include the Beatles, BNL, Beach Boys, and “Weird Al” Yankovic.

Some random facts about me: my favourite composer is Eric Whitacre, I love the cold, I have worn contacts since 7th grade, and I had an imaginary friend named Astro when I was younger. I also adore science and math!
