ZAHNOW AND ROGER’S
PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWSLETTER
DECEMBER 2100
The Christmas season is upon us and Zahnow students and families are busy preparing for the arrival of the jolly man in red! I have to say that when I visited with Santa last week, I did let him know that Zahnow kids have been working hard and doing a good job in the classroom and in the gym. Santa knows that Zahnow students are working hard to make the “nice” list!
Since my last newsletter, kiddos at Zahnow have finished up on an exercise unit.. Kindergarten students have done a few assessments on sit-ups, push-ups, and jumping jacks. We did a 1-minute timed test to see how many sit-ups each student could do. I am proud to say that just about EVERY student could do 5 or more sit-sups. Many students did 30 or more! This is quite an accomplishment for these students! First graders have also worked hard on their exercise unit. Many first graders are to the point of being able to do sit-ups with out anyone holding their feet. They are keeping their backs straight on push-ups, and their arms and legs are working at the same time when they do jumping jacks. I am quite impressed with this group of students! I had tons of students who could do 40 or more sit-ups in 1-minute! My top sit-upper was 49!! Hmmm...can you do that many? Going along with our exercise unit, we did some station work and several games that the students enjoyed. We played Rock ‘n Roll Fitness and a games using a 12-sided dice. Students worked hard and left the gym hot and tired! With the Holiday season quickly approaching, we have played a few games that remind us of Christmas and Santa. We did some reindeer training, where the students practiced jumping, flying, and landing on rooftops, just like the real reindeer do! We also played a game called “Frosty The Snowman”. This is a game where students throw snowballs (balls) at snowmen (bowling pins) and try to knock them down! This turned out to be one of our all-time favorite games!! Second graders are also working VERY hard in PE! What a difference one year makes when it comes to performing sit-ups, push-ups, jumping jacks, and various other difficult exercises. Students enjoy running and exercising and competing with each other to do the most and be the best! Students also enjoy having a bigger gym at Roger’s and having more room to run ,jump, and exercise! We have played a few holiday games, like the infamous “Frosty The Snowman”. One thing is for certain, no matter what the activity is, 2nd graders will play as hard as they possibly can! Good job 2nd grade!!!
Just an extra reminder: PE/Music days will switch after Christmas! I will send a hard copy home next week!
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEWYEAR!!
