The WHS Diversity Club/GSA is celebrating National LGBTQ Ally (pronounced AL-eye) Week this week.  Please take some time to read the signs hanging in the halls with some personal reasons why being or having an ally is important.  Diversity Club will also be sharing a daily statistic, because part of being a good ally is simply educating yourself.  Today's statistic is from The Human Rights Campain’s report, Growing Up LGBT in America, which is a survey of more than 10,000 LGBT-identified youth ages 13-17. This survey showed that 4/10 youth feel that the community they live in is not accepting of LGBTQ people.  Ally Week is about making sure no one feels like that in our WHS community.  Know the facts...Be the change!

Come support the Waterloo School District by participating in the 4th Annual Bulldog Color Run/Walk on September 28th. The race starts at 5:30 pm at the Gardner Soccer Fields. Registration forms can be found online or in any of the school offices. Fees may be paid by check, cash or on WCUSD#5 Webstore at wcusd5.net.   Please issue checks to WCUSD5 Memo Line: Color Run.  Registration is $30.00 for the first 4 family members, 5 or more is $15. Bring the whole family and join the fun!!!

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is opening on October 1st.  This is a process we want all senior students to complete.  WHS is hosting a FAFSA Completion Night on October 2nd at 6:30 pm in the Library to help you with this process.  Check your email for the RSVP link.

The military will have a representative at the high school on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 to administer the ASVAB Career Exploration Program at 8:30 am to any Sophomore through Senior who wishes to take it.  This test measures the student’s strengths and weaknesses in English, Math, Science, and technical/vocational areas.  Results are useful in determining a student’s career options.  Interested students need to come to Guidance to sign up by Monday, Sept 30.

Hey Juniors! Want to get a head start on doing well on the SAT?  Then sign up NOW to take the PSAT/MNSQT on October 16th.  It's a great, inexpensive way to practice, and you can use your results to create an individualized practice plan on Khan Academy.  If you do really well, you could have the opportunity to receive scholarships based on your score.  To reserve your spot, you must bring a $16 check to put your name on the list in the Guidance office.  Please see your counselor if there is a financial barrier preventing you from signing up.
