The Diversity Club LGBTQ Ally Week statistic today is about vocabulary.  This month, Webster’s Dictionary added 533 new words, including “vacay,” as in “We all need to go on a Vacay right now,” and, “sesh,” as in, “We need to have a Chemistry study sesh tonight!” They also added a new pronoun.  Most of the time we use “he” and “him” for boys, and, “she” and “her” for girls. But now, the dictionary has added “they” and “their” for gender fluid or non-binary people. Remember, if you don’t know someone’s preferred pronouns, don’t assume or guess... just ask them!  Know the facts...be the change!

Come support the Waterloo School District by participating in the 4th Annual Bulldog Color Run/Walk on September 28th. The race starts at 5:30 pm at the Gardner Soccer Fields. Bring the whole family and join the fun!!!

Guidance

Oak Hill is looking for volunteers to work their Oktoberfest tomorrow from 4-7:30. Even if you can't work the entire time, they would appreciate any help.  Sign up is on the Guidance window.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is opening on October 1st.  This is a process we want all senior students to complete.  WHS is hosting a FAFSA Completion Night on October 2nd at 6:30 pm in the Library to help you with this process.  Check your email for the RSVP link.

George Weber in Columbia is looking to hire a part time receptionist. Come to Guidance for more information.

The military will have a representative at the high school on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 to administer the ASVAB Career Exploration Program at 8:30 am to any Sophomore through Senior who wishes to take it.  This test measures the student’s strengths and weaknesses in English, Math, Science, and technical/vocational areas.  Results are useful in determining a student’s career options.  Interested students need to come to Guidance to sign up by Monday, Sept 30.

Hey Juniors! Want to get a head start on doing well on the SAT?  Then sign up NOW to take the PSAT/MNSQT on October 16th.  It's a great, inexpensive way to practice, and you can use your results to create an individualized practice plan on Khan Academy.  If you do really well, you could have the opportunity to receive scholarships based on your score.  To reserve your spot, you must bring a $16 check to put your name on the list in the Guidance office.  Please see your counselor if there is a financial barrier preventing you from signing up.
