Waterloo Families,

All WCUSD #5 students will resume in-person learning for December 7-18, as outlined in our Blended Remote Learning Plans.  (Regular morning attendance for PK-5 students, A/B format for 6-12 students.)

Important:  We are extending the first semester through January 15.  (This will make up for some instructional days lost at the beginning of the school year, but most importantly will allow a few extra weeks to assess student learning and determine appropriate interventions for struggling students.)

Our ability to appropriately staff our buildings remains fragile.  All parents should remain prepared for a return to remote learning due to any suspected outbreak or inability to staff our buildings.

Unfortunately, many students, families, and employees were forced to quarantine during Thanksgiving.  We would like to avoid further quarantines of members of our school family over Christmas break.  We have had a number of parents inquire about "staying remote" during these two weeks before Christmas break.  If your child has been successful navigating remote learning, and this is convenient for your family, please feel welcome to exercise this option through Christmas break.  (Please communicate with your child's school if exercising this option.)  We will be stressing social distancing more than ever during this two week period so that everyone can enjoy the holiday with their family.

Respectfully,

Brian Charron
Superintendent
