The WJHS Staff Member of the Month for April is Mrs. Zavorka! Mrs. Zavorka teaches 7th grade math classes at WJHS. In nominations, her students described her as super kind, polite, funny, creative, patient, upbeat, and always willing to help. We appreciate all that Mrs. Zavorka does to ensure her students are confident and successful in math. We are so glad she joined the WJHS staff this year!

Good morning parents. WJHS began a fourth quarter behavior incentive on March 6. Our fourth quarter behavior incentive will be a dance on Friday, May 12. Students that make good decisions during the 4th quarter will earn the privilege of attending the dance. All students are eligible unless they earn three strikes. One strike is earned for referrals that result in a lunch detention or after school detention. Two strikes are earned for referrals that result in alternative room/in school suspension. Three strikes are earned for out of school suspension. The strikes are cumulative, so please encourage your child to make good decisions! We want all students to be eligible, but we also need for students to make good decisions at school. More details about the dance will be shared soon.

Dear WJHS Families, Our American Heart Challenge has begun and will run through April 12th. This is an annual event to support the American Heart Association. I am proud of our school and our district for the incredible efforts each year that make us the top fundraising school district in Southern Illinois. Please join in for this year’s AHC. You can register online at www.heart.org/ahc with a quick search to find our school’s team. Once registered, start Finn’s Mission and complete the challenges. As a family, you can help create a community of lifesavers by learning about Hands Only CPR with your child. You can also reinforce the scientific reasons to avoid vaping and tobacco with another educational video within Finn’s Mission. AHC is more than a fundraiser, and we hope you will use these resources. Your child will receive some gifts from the American Heart Association for supporting this cause. We have a few school incentives to celebrate our fundraising as well, and those are in the communication sent home with the AHC collection envelopes. Thank you for considering how you can be a part of our team! All donations make a difference! Sincerely, Nick Schwartz WJHS Principal
